Absolute Beach Frontage
The Wye River Beachfront Camping Ground is 15 kilometers from Lorne and 30kms from Apollo Bay. Situated right on the beach at the entrance to the small seaside village, the park is open for business from the start of the Spring School Holidays (22nd September 2017) through until the last weekend in April.
With only 60 powered and 4 unpowered sites demand quite often exceeds supply so it is a good idea to make your reservations early. The unpowered area is different to other campgrounds, as it is situated after a railed/bollarded beach access which prevents vehicular traffic; meaning tents only for this area.
The Reserve is a place to relax and unwind from the stresses of daily life. Enjoy the fresh sea air, listen to the waves rolling in as you settle in for the evening.
Facilities within the Reserve include an amenities block with a disabled shower/toilet/baby change room - all which is cleaned daily; a laundry with 3 washing machines and a double stack dryer; a new camp kitchen with gas burners and rangehoods; a fridge, freezer, microwave and prep/wash up area; outside there is a deck with 4 and 6 burner hooded bbq's and a sitting area with table and chairs.
All Powered sites have individual water access and some have sullage.
Wye River Surf Lifesaving Club, whose clubrooms front the beach at the front of The Reserve, patrol during summer, on weekends and public holidays. They also run a Nippers program for children aged 7 to 13. Phone (03) 9467 4105 or email barbante @ optusnet.com.au.
Wye River Beach Hotel (opposite the Reserve) has Bistro family meals 7 days a week. Dine in or out with spectacular ocean views from the verandah (Take away available). Extensive wine list. Phone (03) 5289 0240.
Wye River General Store, also opposite the Reserve, is open daily. Take-away food, newspapers, groceries, hardware, fishing tackle, Post Office (limited services). The General Store also operates a fully licensed restaurant which is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch and for dinner during the peak season, check opening hours www.wyerivergeneralstore.com.au or call (03) 5289 0247.
The fishing from the beach produces good catches of a variety of fish – you never know what you might catch especially on the tides, 2 hours either side, is usually the best. Bait is available from the General Store. Surfing, forests, rivers and abundant wildlife add to your Wye River experience.
Use Wye River as your base to explore the Great Ocean Road. There is much to see and do in the immediate area and if you are looking for a day trip you are only 125kms from the world famous 12 Apostles (allow plenty of time in peak periods).
