Apollo Bay Tourist Information

Apollo Bay 186 km south-west of Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road is affectionately known as “Paradise by the Sea” and the generations of holiday-makers who have enjoyed the broad sweep of this magnificent beach and protected bay would agree with Rudyard Kipling’s description of Apollo Bay as “ Paradise”. Spectacular scenery abounds with the mighty Otways merging with green hills and the ocean.

Apollo Bay caters for the visitor with many fine restaurants, cafes and hotels providing quality food at realistic prices and with the Fishermens Co-Op at the western end of the bay you can be assured of the very best and freshest seafood.

Apollo Bay offers a wide variety of accommodation. Visitors can choose from resort-style luxury to bed and breakfast establishments near secluded beaches. There is motels, apartments, cottages, caravan parks, cabins, camping and backpacker accommodation.

Explore the delightful picturesque country lane along the Barnham River (take Barnham River Road just past 2nd hotel in main street) lush farmland and the cool green that is the Otways. Tarry at Paradise is a great picnic spot sheltered by giant tree ferns. Continue on to Marriners Falls and Mariners Fall Lookout-fantastic views of the country side and ocean.

Another great lookout is Crows Nest take Tuxion Road on the Melbourne side of town proceed approx 5kms to the carpark. Steep walk to the lookout, but it is worth it. Spectacular views of the township, harbour and ocean – a photographers dream.

Apollo Bay is the ideal base to explore the walks and waterfalls of the Great Otways National Park one of the finest rainforest in Australia. 

50 minutes from Apollo Bay the Otway Fly Treetop Adventure is a nature based rainforest Treetop Walk and Zip Line Tour. offering a bird’s eye view of the majestic Otways Rain forest. Open daily 9am to 5pm. Last entry to tree top walk is 4pm (check winter times). Travel back through the ages and roam amongst the prehistoric display with a dinosaur around every corner- all at The Otway Fly.

Cape Otway Lightstation is approximately 35 kms from town heading towards Lavers Hill on the Great Ocean Road. Visit the top of Australia’s most significant lighthouse (1848) and experience the awesome views from the balcony, 90 metres above the wild Southern Ocean. And as an added bonus see Koalas in their natural habitat on the Cape Otway Road a few kilometers from the Lightstation.
