Lorne

Travelling from Melbourne - Lorne is situated on the Great Ocean Road approximately 140 kms south of Melbourne via the Geelong bypass. Simply turn right at the traffic lights at the end of the bypass, travel a short distance on the A1 then veer left and you are on the C134 to Anglesea, Lorne is a further 28 kilometers along the Great Ocean Road.

Travelling from the Queenscliff/Sorrento Car Passenger Ferry head through Queenscliff toward Geelong. The turnoff to the Great Ocean Road is approximatelty 15 kms, turn left at the roundabout, proceed through Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Torquay then Angleasea, Aireys Inlet to Lorne a distance of  approximately 95 kilometres.

Lorne is recognized as one of Australia’s top all season resorts so it is highly recommended you book your accommodation well in advance of peak periods.

Bustling sidewalk cafes, superb restaurants, shops, boutiques and galleries combined with Mediterranean weather it is no wonder Lorne was the first place to be declared an area of special significance and Natural Beauty by the Victorian Government and that was more than 100 years ago!

Lorne is a place of rare beauty with its long protected sandy beach fronting Loutit Bay, a haven for all types of water activities. The Surf Lifesaving Club is situated across the road from the Lorne Hotel, members patrol the beach during main holiday periods, whilst the majestic Great Otway National Park overlooks the township.

Great Otway National Park

One of Victoria’s natural treasures The Great Otway National Park covers around 103,000 hectares and combines what was the Otway National Park, Angahook-Lorne State Park, Carlisle State Park, Melba Gully State Park and State Forest areas.

Marvel at magnificent fern gullies which surround huge trees, some many hundreds of years old including the prehistoric Giant Southern Beech tree (Nothofagus).

Call into the Information Centre for updated information on the walks, scenic lookouts and what is happening in town during your stay.
