A very popular stop-over for visitors to the Great Ocean Road is the Memorial Arch a few kilometers from Aireys Inlet and just past Fairhaven.
The Arch commemorates the construction of the road and symbolizes the sacrifice made by so many in the First World War. It stands astride the largest enduring war memorial in the world, “The Great Ocean Road”, a living memorial to our forefathers. |

Boydtown Eden VIC NSW The principal relic of Ben Boyd's adventures is the Seahorse Inn which began construction in 1843 however it was abandoned in 1849 and for almost a century was left vacant.
In 1936 it was purchased by the Whiter Brothers who renovated it and added a second story.
In 1975 Bruce Lyon purchased the Seahorse Inn and in 2002 he closed the Inn and spent a considerable amount of time renovating and refurbishing the old hotel. He added the Brasserie and Conference rooms and transformed it into the beautiful hotel it is today. Accommodation is available. Open 7 days. |

Imlay Street Eden NSW 2551 Established in 1931, is one of the oldest museums in NSW, and records for posterity this incredible battle between intrepid men in rowboats, armed only with hand harpoons and the leviathans of the sea. The whalemen were, however, assisted by a pod of killer whales and the museum contains the unique story and the skeleton of the most famous of the killer whales "Old Tom".
The skeleton is the only one on public display in the southern hemisphere. |

Eden is renowned for its fantastic fishing with deep water inlets and bays, crystal clear rivers, golden stretches of shoreline, strategic rock locations and reef and off-shore fishing fields.
The following locations are just a few places recommended to try your luck with rod and reel:
Eden Wharf
Many a rewarding hour can be spent by the family fisher folk at Snug Cove wharves.
To the delight of all ages, yellowtail, mackerel and trevally will always keep mum and dad occupied baiting hooks and casting lines.
Pulpit Rocks at Green Cape
A great spot for land based, dedicated fishermen. Pack a picnic lunch and spend the day. Reached by a 40km scenic road (unsealed but well cared for), this location is well inside the boundariesof Ben Boyd National Park.
Kiah River Mouth
Anglers using live nippers may catch luderick or whiting at this popular beach fishing spot.
Aslings Beach
On the outskirts of the township, Aslings Beach is ideal during late evening for salmon.
Other popular fishing holes are at
Haycock and Peninsular beaches in Ben Boyd National Park to the North and Saltwater and Bittangabee beaches to the South.
Wonboyn Lake
Situated 30km south of Eden, Wonboyn Lake is a versatile lake system and is a mecca for dusky flathead. Moon phases and conditions vary the movement of fish so it's best to seek local advice from bait and tackle shops.
Baycliff, the ocean entrance to Wonboyn Lake, is a top spot for salmon and taylor.
Quarantine Bay
Quarantine Bay is well known for its superb multi-ramp boat launching facilities, but for the holidaymaker without a vessel, this picturesque location is well worth a visit. Situated 3km south of Eden, (Melb side) just off the Princes Highway, Quarantine Bay provides picnic and swimming facilities and the most spectacular outlook. Picnic tables have been placed beneath shady eucalypts adjacent to the fishing club.
Yachts and pleasure craft are moored in the deep waters of the bay, creating an idyllic atmosphere. * Front Page Picture |

A particularly beautiful area of the NSW Far South Coast originally settled by whalers and now a fishing port and a popular, but relatively undeveloped, holiday resort town. Eden, located 476km south of Sydney, is the last town of any significance before crossing the border into north eastern Victoria. With a population of just over 3,000, it is situated 50m above sea level upon undulating land on a point that juts out into Twofold Bay. This idyllic coastal town is bounded to the north and south by National Park and by woodland to the West. |

Imlay Street Eden NSW 2551 Established in 1931, is one of the oldest museums in NSW, and records for posterity this incredible battle between intrepid men in rowboats, armed only with hand harpoons and the leviathans of the sea. Port Campbell VIC 3269 The west coast of Victoria once inspired fear, sailors spoke of wild seas and dangerous rocks, of reefs which lay beneath the surface of the water, of steep cliffs and heavy mists. Many ships had narrow escapes in this stretch of water, many were not so fortunate.
The area between Cape Otway and Port Fairy claimed over 80 ships in 40 years: ships which had traveled safely across half the world, to find disaster only miles from their destination. |

Silver Gulls also known as Sea Gulls nest from August to December. Males in the colony establish a small territory and are then joined by a female, usually the mate from the previous year. Nests are built on the ground so they can spot any predators approaching. Between 2-4 olive blotched eggs are laid and both partners share nesting duties. The eggs take 21-27 days to hatch. |

Walkerville – 21 klms from Tarwin Lower is one of the oldest establishments in Victoria, and is reminiscent of a Cornish fishing village but was actually established as a port for the transport of lime. The remains of the old lime kilns set in the cliffs can still be seen and are well worth the visit. In the early days workers at the lime kilns tried their luck panning for gold - a small amount was found in the area. |

One of the finest views in the city overlooking Lady Bay and Lake Pertobe.. | Warrnambool Whale Watching |
|
Logans Beach Warrnambool VIC 3280 Almost every year between June and September female Southern Right Whales return to the sheltered waters off Warrnambool’s Logan Beach to calve. Gestation takes 9-10 months and a single calf is born in this shallow protected bay.
The whales, who often swim within a hundred metres from shore can be observed from the Viewing platform.
Throughout the summer the Southern Right Whales live in the sub-antartic waters which are rich in their food. During winter they commence their northern migration to the warmer waters of th coast of Australia eventually ending up at Warrnambool’s Logans Beach.
Southern Right Whales were apparently so called because they were the ‘right’ whales to hunt being large and slow moving, rich in oil and baleen.
Once these whales were hunted to near extinction. Now they are protected by an international agreement to ensure the safety of their numbers. |

Historic Grave - approximately 5 kilometers east of Wye River, is a memorial to several seamen who drowned trying to salvage the cargo from the ill fated W. B. Godfrey which was wrecked there in 1891.
The story of the Godfrey is on the display board in front of the lookout just past the grave. |
