As well as charter vessels which take passengers to watch the whales at sea there are some great places to do shore based whale watching. To the south of Eden, Green Cape and South Head in the southern section of the Ben Boyd National Park are excellent vantage points to spot whales. Within Twofold Bay there are viewing platforms at the Rotary Park Lookout and at the eastern end of Bass Street. |

Imlay Street Eden NSW 2551 Established in 1931, is one of the oldest museums in NSW, and records for posterity this incredible battle between intrepid men in rowboats, armed only with hand harpoons and the leviathans of the sea. The whalemen were, however, assisted by a pod of killer whales and the museum contains the unique story and the skeleton of the most famous of the killer whales "Old Tom".
The skeleton is the only one on public display in the southern hemisphere. |

Boydtown Eden VIC NSW The principal relic of Ben Boyd's adventures is the Seahorse Inn which began construction in 1843 however it was abandoned in 1849 and for almost a century was left vacant.
In 1936 it was purchased by the Whiter Brothers who renovated it and added a second story.
In 1975 Bruce Lyon purchased the Seahorse Inn and in 2002 he closed the Inn and spent a considerable amount of time renovating and refurbishing the old hotel. He added the Brasserie and Conference rooms and transformed it into the beautiful hotel it is today. Accommodation is available. Open 7 days. |
