San Remo
San Remo, 120 kilometres from Melbourne is a thriving fishing and holiday village opposite Western Port Bay.
For the holiday maker there are numerous activities in and around San Remo to make your stay a memorable one. There is a sheltered beach at the back of town and great surfing can be found at Griffiths Point.
The jetty area is always alive with visitors who flock to the town to witness the feeding of the Pelicans who line up for their free lunch of fish scraps every day at 12 noon – there is no charge to witness this great, natural, family tourism attraction. Afterwards, you can partake in some of the best fish and chips along the coast at the Pelican View Fish and Chip Restaurant operated by the Fishermans Co-Op which ensures a constant supply of fresh, fish from the the waters of Western Port and Bass Strait. Dine inside or outside the bay views are superb. Fresh fish sales also at the Co-op. Crays in season.
After lunch take the kids to The Chocolate Factory across the bridge opposite the Info Centre. Free samples and over 190 varities of hand made chocolates for sale.
San Remo village has numerous shops including licensed supermarket, restaurants, cafes and two 2 superb hotels catering for families with superb bistro meals.
Accommodation ranges from top of the range apartments to pitching a tent in the caravan park, several motels, tourist park with ensuite cabins, cottages and the traditional bed and breakfast.
Fishing is popular from the jetty and for the more serious fisherman you can book a spot on one of the fishing charters which leave from the jetty at San Remo.
