There is much to see and do in Lakes Entrance. The Summer Carnival runs from mid December to end January The Shell Museum is one of Australia's largest museums of Natural Sealife Visit the new Aqua Park on the other side of the footbridge. Visit spectacular Buchan Caves (50 minute drive from Lakes Entrance). Have a hit of tennis at the Aquadome, or a game of bowls at the Bowling Club. Cruise the Gippsland Lakes or Hire A Boat from Charlie at Blue Riviera and explore the North Arm, nothing like it on a summers day. The Aboriginal Art Gallery is located at Forestec a couple of kilometres on the Melbourne side of town, well worth your time and there is no admittance charge. Nyerimilang Heritage Park perfect for that family picnic and the homestead is set on a cliff top overlooking the Gippsland Lakes. Lakes Entrance Helicopters is an experience to remember, see the iconic Gippsland Lakes from above. Ask about their packaged Heli experiences.

The main beach is located across the footbridge and is patrolled during school and public holidays, however, it is a good idea to keep an eye on the kids as there is often an under tow. The other popular beach is opposite Eastern Beach Caravan Park once again exercise care. Lakes Tyers beach opposite the hotel is also popular with families.

Be careful where you dive accidents often result from diving into shallow waters.
Be aware of slippery banks and rocks when fishing
Do not swim under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Always swim under supervision
If you get into trouble in the water, stay calm. Signal for help, then float and wait for assistance
Float with a current or undertow. Do not try to swim against it.
When out on the water always wear the correct safety equipment.
