San Remo, 120 kilometres from Melbourne is situated on Western Port Bay and is the gateway to Phillip Island which is accessed by bridge. For the holiday maker there are numerous activities in and around San Remo to make your stay a memorable one. There is a sheltered beach at the back of town and great surfing can be found at Griffiths Point. The jetty area is always alive with visitors who flock to the town to witness the feeding of the Pelicans who line up for their free lunch of fish scraps every day at 12 noon. |

It is the only unincorporated territory in Victoria, meaning no shire, no rates, no access, except by boat. It has a permanent population of about 100 people who are mostly into farming and/or tourism. The French Island people are self regulating, have dirt roads and take life a little slower.
