Spacious, family friendly Camping and Caravan Park situated opposite the Barham River and the Southern Ocean. Five minutes walk to town centre cafes and restaurants, 9 hole golf course and the Fishermans Co-Op for your fresh, local seafood.
Many a lasting friendship has been formed as families come back year after year to soak up the wonderful atmosphere that is Apollo Bay. The Recreation Reserve is still one of the places on the Great Ocean Road that is affordable to all and across the road from a sandy beach.
For the fishermen there is a concrete boat ramp near the Fishermans Co-Op which provides easy access to the rich fishing grounds around Apollo Bay or you can try your luck from the jetty or surf fish from the beach opposite. River fishing in the Barham River also produces good catches, the trick is no sinker and fresh bait.
Close by attractions include Maits Rest approx 17kms from the park on the Great Ocean Road. Maits Rest has a raised boardwalk which takes you through a spectacular rainforest. After an hour or so exploring proceed a few kilometers further on to the turnoff to the Cape Otway Lightstation. The road is sealed, but narrow, so be careful. Koalas frequent the area but so do visitors who have a habit of stopping in the middle of the road without thinking of vehicles behind - so please be aware! The light has been in continuous operation since 1848. Daily tours, spectacular coastal views. There is an admittance charge to the Lighthouse. Lavers Hill approximately an hour from the park is the base to explore The Otway Treetop Walk, Melba Gully and The Magnificent Otways waterfalls. The world famous 12 Apostles is a further 45 minutes drive along the Great Ocean Road or you can arrange a joy flight from the airport 5 minutes from the park.
There is much to see and do, but when you arrive at the park you probably won't want to see and do much at all – except relax and enjoy the fresh sea air and perhaps a cold drink and a BBQ.
Local markets are held every Saturday from 8.30am to 4pm in the main street near The Information Centre. Farmers market third Sunday of the month in Moore Street.
