Fishing
Anderson Inlet, the most southerly mangrove habitat
in Australia provides an excellent environment
for trevally, flathead, pinkie snapper, mullet, salmon, tailor, whiting, estuary perch, bream, mulloway, gummy shark and elephant fish.
At the mouth of Screw Creek, along Mahers Landing and Doyles Road, there are natural bait grounds of Bass Yabbies and tube worm that can be pumped for recreational fishing.
The Tarwin River produces mullet, trevally and tommy rough on the moving tide.
Venus Bay Surf Beach
is one of the last remaining pipi colonies in Victoria
Observing the hole and gutter formations on this
25km stretch of beach is crucial to getting the
best results from beach fishing.
The winter months produce sensational sport fishing
for Australian salmon and with schools of fish up to 3kg.
Gummy shark, 7 gill sharks and other varities of
bottom feeders come into feed on sand crabs at night.

Night Fishing
Night fishing for gummy shark requires
extensive preparation.
During daylight hours, select the hole or gutter
you choose to fish and leave markers
in the sand dunes so as to identify it at night.
Berly will help to attract schools of bait fish and
create crab activity which in turn will induce
bottom feeders.A running sinker rig weighted by a 4 ounce sinker with a 700-1000cm leader with 6/0 suicide hook
is ideal. Best baits are bonito fillets
cut into long strips, octopus legs, whole pilchards,
